K's Academy draw after Casuals fight back
The K’s Academy were forced to share the spoils with their visitors after Corinthian Casuals fought back from being two goals down.
The opening chance of the match fell to the K’s. Bruno Morais made a good run along the left flank before setting up the chance for Josh Johnson, who shot narrowly wide.
The Casuals went close to opening the scoring in the 12th minute through a shot from Tyrell Muchina which went inches wide of the post.
Jamie Henderson kept the Casuals on level terms in the 15th minute when he made a good save from Jay Kimoto.
In the remainder of the half, poor finishing ensured that the game would be scoreless at half time, although Rmarni Blankson was unfortunate to see his shot hit the post for the K’s in the 40th minute.
Half time: 0-0
The K’s made a poor start to the second half. The Casuals took the lead two minutes after the restart through a Daniel Leitiao shot. They almost doubled their lead a minute later when Ali Alkhozali’s free kick struck the bar.
The K’s drew level in the 55th minute. Rmarni Blankson made a powerful run at the heart of the Casuals defence before slipping the ball out wide to Josh Johnson. Johnson’s cross picked out Taylor Green who chested the ball down before firing past Henderson.
The K’s took the lead in the 58th minute courtesy of Jay Kimoto, who prodded home the ball after a spell of sustained pressure.
The K’s continued to pressurise the Casuals and they were rewarded with another goal in the 69th minute. Rmarni Blankson received the ball inside the left channel before firing a powerful low shot that beat Henderson.
The K’s had further chances to press home their advantage. Keshone Beech-Williams glanced a header wide, whilst Blankson shot straight at Henderson when well placed.
The Casuals found a route back into the game in the 77th minute. Jamie Henderson’s long punt down the field was not dealt with by the K’s defence, and Mark Cippini took advantage to head the ball over Ronaldo Cardoso.
The Casuals now grew in confidence as they went in search for an equaliser. They found it in the 82nd minute through Daniel Leitiao, who scored with a firm header following a corner.
Both teams went in search of a winner for the remainder of the game, but they were unable to find the elusive goal that would have secured a victory.
