K's concede late to Beavers
K's Academy conceded two goals in stoppage time to lose 4-3 to Hampton and Richmond Borough.
The opening quarter of the game saw chances squandered from both sides. The best of these for Hampton, came when Simon Mulumba lashed a shot narrowly wide following a good counter attack. For the K’s there were shots from Josh Johnson, Lucas Pina and Rmarni Blankson but none troubled Hampton keeper, Jack Gould.
The deadlock was finally broken when the K’s took a 29th minute lead. Lucas Pina made a good surging run at the heart of the Hampton defence before playing a pass into the path of Nash Doukoure who made no mistake in shooting past Gould.
The K’s then had several good chances to increase their lead in the period up to half time. Rmarni Blankson had a shot parried into the path of Josh Johnson who went close with his effort. Johnson was very unlucky not to score in the 37th minute when his shot cannoned off the inside of the post and across the goal. Taylor Green also went close shortly before half time when he shot across the goal.
Half time: 0-1
The K’s increased their lead five minutes into the second half through Josh Johnson, whose pace took him in behind the Hampton defence before lobbing the ball over the advancing keeper.
Hampton reduced the arrears in the 53rd minute through a well struck long range shot from Simon Mulumba.
The home went close to drawing level shortly after, when Thosaveorn Boonpen headed wide from a good position.
The K’s hit back, and they went close through shots from Taylor Green and Lucas Pina before finally increasing their lead in the 69th minute through Bruno Morais. He did well to cut inside from the left flank before unleashing a powerful drive that went in via the inside of the post.
Thosaveorn Boonpen reduced the arrears for the home side with a 77th minute goal which set up a nervous finale.
The K’s held firm until stoppage time when disaster struck for the academy. Hampton equalised when Ronaldo Cardoso was beaten by Riley Allan’s looping free kick. However, there was controversy surrounding the goal, because the ball appeared go out of play just prior to the free kick being awarded.
The K’s then suffered further agony in the closing seconds of stoppage time when Hampton scored their winning goal. The K’s failed to clear their lines, and Simon Mulumba took full advantage to win possession and fire a shot past Cardoso.
