Title Contending Tangerines Too Strong for Spirited K's

Three second half goals prove too much for disciplined K's side.

After a four week hiatus, we were back in action today against one of the most powerful teams in the division - Ashford Town.

Mairead Halliday is sadly ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured ankle, and we were also without Eve McBrinn today, but we welcomed back Georgina Wickham and Georgia Coninx from university.

Ashford were kicking down the hill first half, and with the wind at their backs they came at us from the off. However, we remained well organised in defence throughout this half, and frustrated Ashford by limiting them mainly to wayward long range efforts. HT 0-0.

We continued in a similar vein in the second half until the 65th minute when a slip let in an Ashford striker to open the score from close range. 1-0.

We had a couple of chances to equalise after that, but eventually, in 80th minute, Ashford swung in a dangerous cross that was bundled into our goal by a combination of attackers and defenders. 2-0.

The third Ashford goal arrived in the 96th minute. FT 3-0.

Despite the final result, this was a disciplined and organised performance to be proud of against one of the division’s clear title contenders.
