Clapham United keep K's waiting for a win
K's fall to defeat away to Clapham United.
Clapham Common is probably the least salubrious match venue we have, and today’s pitch didn’t disappoint. Throughout the game we struggled to get the ball down on the very bumpy surface and, in those circumstances, it was always going to be difficult to come away with anything from this game against a Clapham team who play on it every other week..
We didn’t help ourselves by conceding after just five minutes in Clapham’s first serious attack when we were outmuscled by a Clapham striker who found the back of the net. For the next half an hour we had the better of possession and territory, but Clapham’s rearguard were strong and we just couldn’t make the breakthrough. Sure enough 35 minutes in, after what looked like a clear push on the edge of our area, play was allowed to continue and a lofted Clapham shot cleared everyone and we found ourselves 2-0 down. HT 2-0.
The half-time talk was all about trying to get back into the game, but sadly we were almost immediately 3-0 down. We wilted a bit for a while after that and eventually after 70 minutes Clapham’s fourth saw the game effectively over. As is often the case, we came on strong in the last twenty minutes and were agonisingly close to clawing a goal back when the ball was desperately clawed out by their keeper and the referee decided that the whole of the ball hadn’t quite crossed the line. FT 4-0.
