The Fossil Cup
...by popular demand, the Fossil Cup will return.
To celebrate the life of K’s life member Brian Newman (AKA “Fossil”) a special match took place last autumn on Sunday 11th October 2020. Soon after the passing of Brian, fellow Kingstonian fan Iain Butler had a great idea and arranged a “Fossil Cup” challenge match with several fans helping with the organisation of this. The game was between members of Kingstonian's 2006 Surrey Senior Cup winning side and our 2009 Isthmian League Division One South championship team and took place at Colliers Wood United FC.
It was a very entertaining game that seemed to be enjoyed by all, especially the players. The sun was shining and £1194 was raised for Brian’s family’s chosen charity; Cancer Research. The highly competitive game finished 3-3 and was eventually won 6-5 on penalties by the 2009 team. A number of players approached Butler after the game to say how much they enjoyed the day and suggested a rematch in the summer.
This has now been agreed, although we will await confirmed details of what happens to the 2020/21 season before fixing a date in the summer when it is safe for fans to attend.
