Royston Town 1-1 Kingstonian (3-4 pens)

Kingstonian advance to the Second Round of the FA Trophy on penalties after a tight game at Garden Walk.

Kingstonian are in the proverbial hat for the FA Trophy Second Round draw on Monday lunchtime after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Southern League side Royston Town.

A draw was probably the fairest result as K's deserved to lead at half time through Gus Sow's 23rd minute penalty, awarded when Daniel Ajakaiye was fouled on the edge of the area - whether you think he was inside the box or outside the box probably depends on the team you wanted to see win as it was perilously close. Sow's penalty, though, was emphatic.

Royston were the better team when the second half began and deserved their equaliser in the 49th minute from a corner that was headed home by Dan Newton. The rest of the second half saw both teams slug it out in a desperate but fruitless search for a winner, but after four minutes of nerve jangling added time, the whistle went and the tie went straight to a penalty shoot-out.

After both teams had scored three and been unsuccessful with one, Royston's fifth penalty was supremely saved by Rob Tolfrey before Elliott Buchanan put away the decisive spot kick and K's can look forward to the next round in a fortnight's time.
