Kingstonian U18s 4-1 Godalming Town U18s

K's come back from a goal down to win the Combined Counties League Youth Cup Final.
Kingstonian's Under 18s tonight produced a fine performance in an excellent Cup Final to defeat a good Godalming Town team 4-1 in the final of the Combined Counties League Youth League Cup at Burnham FC.
The G's took the lead in the 9th minute thanks to a super turn and shot from outside the area by Ben Carpenter, and it began to look as if it was going to be one of those nights for the hoops as they knocked on the door for an equaliser but couldn't get on equal terms.
Equalising early in the second half was always going to be a key requirement for a successful Kingstonian evening, this they managed to do and much more besides. Firstly, with practically his first touch of the game, substitute Marco Haigh curled a shot home from the edge of the area in the 52nd minute. Then it was the David Lopes free-kick clinic as in the 54th minute he blasted a thunderous free kick from 25 yards out into the net, followed five minutes later by a crafty goal, placing the ball under the leaping wall and just inside the near post.
Goal scorer became goal provider with his last touch of the game as David Lopes, later named Man of the Match, produced a wonderful pass in the 76th minute that allowed Alex Body in on goal, and the K's substitute walked the ball around the Godalming goalkeeper and passed the ball into an empty net.
A successful night for Kingstonian and a most welcome piece of silverware - the team will go again on Wednesday night at the same venue as they face Ascot United in what is sure to be an exciting final of the Grant-McLellan Cup.
