Kingstonian U18s 3-1 Ascot United U18s

Kingstonian

David Lopes and Marco Haigh in the goals again as K's win their second trophy in three days.

Since last Friday, Kingstonian Under 18s have played in one semi-final and two finals and won all three - last Friday the young K's beat Camberley Town 2-0 in the Grant McLellan Cup Semi-Final, then on Monday came the CCL League Cup Final win over Godalming Town by four goals to one, and tonight the team returned to Burnham FC for the final of the Grant-McLellan Cup, claiming the trophy with a fine 3-1 victory over Ascot United.

K's opened the scoring against Ascot thanks to a David Lopes goal in the 42nd minute and that was that until half time. On the hour mark, Lopes doubled the score with yet another stellar free-kick, this one blasted from silly distance before Marco Haigh extended the lead to three in the 63rd minute, pouncing on a rebound after an Alex Body shot was repelled on the goal-line.

To the credit of the Ascot United team, they came back to score in the 65th minute thanks to a calmly taken goal from Lawson Jones, latching on to a long ball, sidestepping keeper Shay Honey and passing the ball into the net. The two goal lead never felt truly comfortable for the rest of the game but there was no further scoring and Kingstonian could celebrate winning silverware for the second time this week to put the biggest of exclamation marks to complete the 2021-22 season.
