Kingstonian 4-2 Lewes

K's win a remarkable match over a strong Lewes team.
Kingstonian made it two wins from two matches in the new calendar year after beating fellow promotion challengers Lewes 4-2 after an incredible match at King George's Field.
K's got off to the faster start and opened the scoring with two quickfire goals - in the 20th minute Daniel Ajakaiye fired home after a Nyren Clunis shot wasn't cleared, and then two minutes later K's won a corner which saw Jerry Puemo power the ball home.
The old tradition of former K's players coming back to score against the hoops came true once again as Lewes got themselves back into the contest in the 26th minute thanks to an Iffy Allen shot. Lewes finished the first half very much on the front foot and will have been unhappy at not having scored an equaliser despite their pressure.
The second half began much the same way as the first one ended, with the Rooks in the ascendancy and probing for their second goal, but K's dug in and battled hard before scoring twice in three minutes with around twenty ticks to go - firstly Nyren Clunis netted after a fine 1-2 down the right with Rhys Murrell-Williamson in the 71st minute, then the RMW himself scoring in the 74th minute with a stunning curler.
The contest wasn't done and dusted, though, as Lewes got one back in the 83rd minute thanks to a fine finish from Ollie Tanner, and a third goal for the Rooks would have made for a massively uncomfortable grandstand finish, but K's rode every challenge that was fired at them and came away with a fine victory.
There's no rest for the wicked, however, as on Saturday K's travel up to Brightlingsea Regent for a 3pm kick-off.
