Kingstonian 3-1 Margate

Kingstonian

Outstanding second half keeps Kingstonian in the play-off hunt.

Kingstonian got back to winning ways with a fine 3-1 win over Margate at King George's Field.

It could have been very different but for a wonderful double save from a penalty kick in the 24th minute by Rob Tolfrey that denied Ben Greenhalgh and then Vance Bola. That would have put the 'Gate up by two goals after Greenhalgh's 10th minute header and arguably there would have been a steep mountain to climb.

K's were unfortunate not to have equalised after several chance before half time were either missed or well saved by Ben Bridle-Card, but they made amends at the start of a very wet second half in the 50th minute when Elliott Buchanan converted a rebound Bridle-Card's fine save from a bullet strike by Daniel Ajakaiye. K's were soon in the lead when Ben Swift put the ball past his own keeper in the 59th minute and the game had turned completely around.

K's thought that they might have had Margate down to ten men when Bridle-Card handballed outside the area stopping a potential chance from Daniel Ajakaiye. Instead a yellow card was brandished but from the resulting 75th minute free kick Elliott Buchanan curled a wonderful shot from a stupid angle around the keeper to score the clinching goal.

Kingstonian remain in seventh place after this victory but have games in hand on those above as at least half the division are still with a realistic chance of challenging for promotion come the end of April.
