Kingstonian 3-1 Brightlingsea Regent
Rob Tolfrey's record-breaking 558th appearance ends with victory for the leaders Kingstonian.
Kingstonian won their fifth straight League match to remain top of the Pitching In Isthmian League Premier Division table as they defeated Brightlingsea Regent 3-1 in a hard-fought contest.
K's goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey broke Micky Preston's all-time Kingstonian appearances with his 558th game for the club.
The home side hit the floor running and continued with the tempo that saw them to a big victory in the FA Cup three days previously, and it was no surprise when they took the lead. In the 11th minute, a Brightlingsea defender was penalised for handball, Gus Sow stepped up and, with a surprisingly conventionally-hit penalty, blasted the ball into the net.
The only disappointment of a well-played first half was that K's had only scored one goal, and near the start of the second half an increasingly-confident Brightlingsea Regent got back into the game in the 56th minute - Rob Tolfrey came out for a catch, under some pressure he didn't keep hold of it and Charlie Durling took full advantage and headed into the empty net.
K's looked comparatively sluggish in the third quarter of the game, but they flicked the switch with a fine end to the game - in the 72nd minute a fine run and cross from Gus Sow was tapped home by the on-rushing Daniel Ajakaiye, followed by a deserved goal with a shot from an acute angle in the 82nd minute for Jason Banton.
Kingstonian remain top of the game with 15pts from their opening five games, but there is a l-o-n-g way to go this season and there are plenty of good teams only just behind.
