Kingstonian 2-3 Merstham

Merstham

Moatsiders knock Kingstonian out of the Velocity Trophy with a deserved 3-2 victory.

Kingstonian's poor record in the Isthmian League Cup since lifting the trophy in 2016 continued apace - since that victory over Faversham Town at Colston Avenue, Carshalton, the K's have yet to win a tie in the competition. Merstham saw to it that this particular poor run goes on for another year.

The home side opened the scoring in the 7th minute with a spectacular strike from Calum Davies, but Merstham regained parity five minutes later with a fine header by Shola Ayoola.

Ayoola scored his and his team's second goal in the 22nd minute with a clinical strike before Calum Davies equalised for Kingstonian in the 33rd minute with a skillful turn and shot.

The second half was not something to write home about as both teams huffed and puffed in search of a winner - with a penalty shoot-out looming large, Merstham won the tie when Ellis Brown fired home with just seven minutes left.

K's will have to dust themselves down after this poor result and prepare for the big game coming up on Sunday against Woking.
