East Thurrock United 2-1 Kingstonian

Another desperate afternoon as the Rocks condemn the K's to their 10th consecutive winless game.
East Thurrock United boosted their survival hopes in coming from behind to defeat a sorry Kingstonian side 2-1 at Rookery Hill.
K's took the lead in the 32nd minute when Kenny Beaney scored his first goal of the season, finishing off a fine move down the right and converting a cross from Nyren Clunis. East Thurrock goalkeeper Arthur Janata made a super save just afterwards from a diving Beaney header, but nevertheless K's led at half time for the first time in a game for nearly two months.
The second half began well for the visitors when Janata made another excellent save, this time from a Fabio Saraiva free kick, but then the afternoon went sour for the hoops. Firstly, Kenny Beaney went off injured in the 55th minute, and four minutes later Johnny Ashman took advantage of some sleepy defending to fire home.
After the departure from the game of the influential Beaney, K's struggled to maintain any hold on the game, struggled to create much in the way of goal scoring chances and it looked for much of the second half that the game would fizzle out into a draw the would not have made either team happy.
Then with six minutes to go, the Rocks took the lead with a goal of terrifying simplicity - K's were pressing for a winning goal and had committed many players forward, but Rocks keeper Janata seized the ball, booted it miles down field towards forward Ashman, who only had Nyren Clunis for company. Inexplicably, the ball was allowed to bounce, the East Thurrock man reacted quickly and slid the ball home past keeper Julian Schwarzer, a goal that was magnificent for the home team but dreadfully given away by the visitors.
K's had the ball in the net deep in injury time but the goal was ruled out for offside - even if that had have been allowed a draw would have been a disappointing result, but losing this match cuts rather deeply.
Next up on Tuesday is the visit to Tolworth to play Corinthian-Casuals in the Quarter-Finals of the Surrey Senior Cup. Kick-off at the UBG Stadium will be 7.45pm.
