Penalties heartbreak for K's as Dorking Wanderers win the Surrey Cup for the first time

Kingstonian's 2021-22 season began in July with a late defeat at Meadowbank against Dorking Wanderers. Ten months later, the season ended with a penalty shoot-out defeat at the same venue against the same opponent, as Dorking Wanderers lifted the Surrey Senior Cup for the first time in their history.

Despite having not played a competitive game for 24 days, K's came close to upsetting their National League South play-off finalist opponents as they took the lead in the fifth minute thanks a fine strike from midfielder Kershaney Samuels. The men in yellow had the better exchanges of the first half and will perhaps regret not leading at the break by more than the single goal.

The Wanderers equalised in the 67th minute from the penalty spot, an award given for a foul on Wes Fogden by D'sean Theobalds - Darren Oldaker was successful with the spot kick.

Many more spot kicks were in the future for both teams as goalkeepers Serine Sanneh and Slavomir Huk starred in the shoot-out, K's Sanneh saving two but Dorking's Huk saved three before Dan Gallagher's successful strike ended the night's festivities - Dorking can now look forward to their play-off final against Ebbsfleet United whilst Kingstonian begin preparations for the 2022-23 season.
