Corie Andrews joins AFC Wimbledon
Kingstonian Football Club would like to confirm the transfer of Corie Andrews to Skybet League One Club, AFC Wimbledon.
As part of the deal that sees Corie move to Plough Lane, Kingstonian will host AFC Wimbledon in pre-season, with them bringing the entire First Team Squad to King George's Field.
Although we are disappointed to lose Corie, the Club is delighted for him personally. Equally, we would like to place on record our thanks to AFC Wimbledon, who were excellent to deal with.
Although Hayden has expressed his disappointment in losing our top goal scorer, both he and the Directors refused to stand in his way. "I'm obviously disappointed to lose such an important player," said the Manager. "However, I know how much this means to Corie and I am absolutely thrilled for him. Not only is Corie a fantastic player but he is a fantastic lad. He is an example to every young player who has been released from a professional club and has the ambition to bounce back."
"With the season on the brink of being cancelled, I'm pleased the campaign hasn't been meaningless, as it's given Corie the platform to progress. I'm proud of him and delighted for him. He deserves this opportunity and I’m sure his career will go from strength to strength.”
Notably, Hayden was also keen to highlight this was not the first approach the Club had received for the striker. “I know the Kingstonian supporters will be sad to see Corie leave. Therefore, it’s important for them to know that he has refused various offers to play in the National League to remain loyal to Kingstonian. Equally, as a Club we have done everything in our power to keep him. However, this is potentially a life changing opportunity and as I’m sure our supporters would agree, it would not be right to stand in his way. He’s been a pleasure to work with and I know he will have a fantastic career. He certainly deserves to.”
In completing his dream move, Corie was quick to show his appreciation to everyone at the Club. “I’d like to thank the Manager, the coaches and my team mates. Without them, I couldn’t have achieved this.”
“I would also like to thank the Directors and the fans for making me feel at home and giving me your support from day one.”
Good luck Corie! See you in August!
