Brightlingsea Regent 0-2 Kingstonian

Kingstonian

In difficult conditions, K's win for the first time against Brightlingsea Regent thanks to an unusual Dan Bennett double.

Dan Bennett scored two goals on a tough afternoon in Essex as Kingstonian claimed a vital win.

The game started out in windy conditions and ended with rain either falling horizontally or murmurating around the Taydal Stadium, but whatever the weather, the K's were able to tough it out and claim their first ever victory over Brightlingsea Regent at the fifth attempt.

Kingstonian's opening goal came in the fortieth minute when a Tommy Kavanagh shot from just outside the area took a huge deflection off Dan Bennett and settled nicely in the back of the net.

The second half saw conditions deteriorate, but the visiting men in yellow were always strong enough to keep the home team at bay. In the 89th minute, with the wind and rain blowing so hard that visibility was becoming ever more challenging, Kingstonian finished the game off - Reece Hall and Regent goalkeeper challenged for a high ball in the area, the ball fell nicely for Dan Bennett, who produced a lovely lobbed finish to claim his second of the afternoon and confirmed the three points for Hayden Bird's men.

The goals themselves may have had some fortune, but on the day as a whole, Kingstonian got what they deserved.
