K Sports Isthmian Youth League Cup match report

Kingstonian moved into the Third Round of the Isthmian Youth League Cup with a comfortable 6-1 scoreline over K Sports at South Park FC, but the game itself wasn't as comfortable as the final score suggests as Kingstonian had to work hard against a determined and organised defence in order to get the job done.

After much pressure, Kingstonian finally broke the visitors' resistance in the 31st minute when a cross was fired in from the right wing, for the first time the defence didn't deal with the problem, so the ball arrived at the feet of Deniz Ozer, who steadied himself and blasted the ball home from about twelve yards out.

The home team started the second half quickly and doubled the lead in the 49th minute with a fine move - a lovely pass with the outside of his foot by Iker Noguera Leon freed up Rocco Ilhan, whose shot was well saved by K Sports' excellent goalkeeper Harrison Chamberlain, but unfortunately for him he parried the ball into the path of Deniz Ozer, who scored his second goal of the evening on the follow up.

Substitute Adelino Sampaio was the architect of Kingstonian's third goal, his shot at goal on the right was blocked but rebounded directly back to him. Quickly, he dashed to the byline, put in a cracking cross for Rocco Ilhan to launch himself at the ball, got a boot to it just before his marker and diverted it into the net.

K Sports never stopped working and were dangerous on the break, and they deserved to get back into the contest in the 73rd minute when they seized possession, raced down the right wing and Brandon Stirman crossed for Louie Wood to finish well. A second goal for K Sports would have allowed for a grandstand finish, but Kingstonian knuckled down and scored three times in three minutes to confirm their place in the next round.

The first of the three goals came in the 82nd minute when a short pass from Zac Jervis released Iker Noguera Leon, who ran and ran and ran and ran with the ball across the face of the penalty area, finally found a millimeter of space of shoot and crashed the ball home. Two minutes later, the same combination did the damage again, Zac Jervis pass to Iker Noguera Leon, this time he loomed quickly on goal, his shot coming off the unfortunate K Sports goalkeeper for his second and Kingstonian's fifth.

Goal number six came from a corner kick in the 85th minute that was powerfully met by Junior Mboglem, Harrison Chamberlain made another fine save but once again saw the rebound fall perfectly to a Kingstonian player, this time back to Mboglem who was able to poke the ball home.

Another good result for a confident Kingstonian team that currently has positive vibes exuding all over the place - if they keep doing what they're doing in the way that they're doing it then there's going to be more good evenings than bad ones. Next up is a Grant McLellan Cup tie as the hoops begin their defence of the trophy with a home game at Chertsey Town FC against AFC Whyteleafe on Wednesday night, kicking off at 7.45pm. After that is a small matter of Charlton Athletic in the FA Youth Cup at Dartford next Wednesday 26th October at 7pm. Exciting times.
