Leatherhead U18s match report

Kingstonian kept their place at the top of the Central Division with a 3-0 victory over a stubborn and well-organised Leatherhead side at River Lane.

The Tanners proved to be a determined opponent on another freezing night in the Mole Valley and whilst Kingstonian enjoyed most of the possession by far, they were forced to be patient in a match that turned into an attritional battle.

The first half remained scoreless as K's were unable to break down the hard-working Tanners and weren't able to create much in the way of clear chances.

The second half was a different story though - it threatened to be much more of the same until the 63rd minute when the breakthrough finally arrived. Pacey Bean threaded a short pass through into the penalty area to Marco Haigh, who nearly sidestepped a defender and shot home from close range. Almost immediately after the re-start, the K's had doubled the lead when Iker Noguer Leon supplied Lewis Gould, whose shot went straight at the Leatherhead keeper but inexplicably squeezed through his legs and into the net, a severely unfortunate moment for the unlucky custodian.

The points were confirmed from the penalty spot in the 75th minute when Pacey Bean was tripped in the penalty area and from the resulting spot kick, Freddie Bailey sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and victory in this difficult game was assured.

It's back to South Park in seven days time when the K's host Carshalton Athletic for another Central Division fixture, kick-off will be 7.45pm.
