Another Fine Home Win for CCL Under 18s

Kingstonian moved up to fifth place in the West Division of the Combined Counties League youth section after a 4-0 victory over Merstham's West Division squad. Despite the comfortable looking scoreline, the game was anything but, with the home side's better finishing being the biggest difference between the two.

Kingstonian's opening goal came in the 15th minute and was a fabulous individual goal from Alex Body, who jinked past one defender and slammed the ball home from the edge of the penalty area. The Merstham keeper was good enough to get a touch to the ball, but the shot was too powerful and the home side had an early lead.

The young hoops doubled the lead in the 30th minute and it was thanks to some more fine play from Alex Body, who beat a couple of defenders on the left side of the penalty area before squaring to Deniz Ozer, with the K's player passing the ball first time into the net.

Seven minutes later and Kingstonian were three goals up, and it was a sorry tale for the unfortunate Merstham goalkeeper. The move started when Jordan Akono Bilongo found Zac Jervis on the left wing - the midfielder darted into the penalty area and shot at the near post where the Merstham number one seemingly had it covered but unexpectedly the ball sneaked through the smallest of gaps between right boot and near post and settled in the back the net.

Kingstonian finished the game off as a contest in the 61st minute with their fourth goal, created by Deniz Ozer's fine flighted cross into the area and finished off by Hazim Bello's glancing header.

Callum Stephens had a shot ping off the post as K's searched for a fifth goal but there would be no more scoring in what was an entertaining game between two teams who constantly attacked each other through the whole contest.

Tomorrow night (Thursday) the Kingstonian Under 18s have another match, this time it's the Isthmian Youth League team as they visit Gander Green Lane for what for us is always one of the fixtures of the year as the K's face Sutton United for a 7.45pm kick-off.
