K's Under 18s Win a Thriller at Gander Green Lane
This was Isthmian Youth League football at its finest, two talented squads of players giving everything for the whole duration of the game, finishing with Kingstonian notching possibly their best victory of the season over hosts Sutton United.
The lads in amber started the game the better and spurned a couple of half chances before Kingstonian started to claw their way into the game on an absolutely beautiful carpet of a pitch.
Kingstonian then took the lead in the 19th minute - Freddie Bailey teamed up with Kwesi Ntim with a short corner routine on the right wing, with Ntim dashing past a defender and crossing into the six yard box, finishing up with David Lopes nodding the ball home from close range.
The visitors then doubled their lead with four minutes remaining thanks to a nicely worked goal. After several passes just outside the area, the ball found David Lopes near the penalty spot. Under pressure from a couple of defenders, he managed to lay the ball back to Callum Stephens, who slammed the ball home from about fifteen yards out.
Sutton United needed to get off to a fast start to the second half to get themselves back in the contest and this is precisely what they did in the 50th minute. The Us won a corner which found Kaden Harris, his shot was blocked and collected by Jerome Nwanua. He took his time, moved to the side to avoid a tackle and slammed the ball home past the unlucky Shay Honey for a super goal.
The rest of the game saw the two teams slug it out in search for another goal, and the biggest surprise was that neither team was able to add to their tally despite both teams going close on a number of occasions. Three minutes of added time elapsed, the referee decided to end the game and Kingstonian had earned for themselves a wonderful victory at Gander Green Lane.
