K's move into Second Round of Grant-McLellan Cup
Kingstonian produced a good team performance at the Kiln Brow to defeat hosts Redhill 5-0 in the First Round of the Grant-McLellan Cup.
K's flew out of the blocks to begin the game, with several chances for Alex Body early in the game, but the Redhill goalkeeper made a series of fine saves. Redhill did have one glorious chance when a chip over K's goalkeeper Shay Honey went just wide.
However, two super individual goals in three minutes put the away team in charge - firstly in the 18th minute Deniz Ozer went on a long run that took him past a couple of Redhill players to the edge of the area, where he rifled a shot into the back of the net. Almost straight from the kick-off, Kingstonian won possession back, the ball found Freddie Bailey, whose curling shot into the far corner, from almost the exact same spot as Deniz Ozer's successful shot, was sublime.
Kingstonian's third goal came in the 33rd minute and was supplied by a fabulous first time cross from the right wing by Joshua Alvarez, which perfectly found Alex Body inside the six yard box, and the K's forward got the goal his work deserved with a pinpoint header.
Joshua Alvarez was the catalyst for Kingstonian's fourth goal in the 39th minute when he was fouled inside the penalty area near to the byline - Marco Haigh sent the Redhill goalkeeper the wrong way with his spot kick.
The final goal of the night came in the 48th minute with a sweeping team move, Deniz Ozer ran at the defence, squared the ball to Alex Body, whose reverse pass fell into the path of Tom Pendrich, and the K's number ten was able to pass the ball into the net.
Redhill's goalkeeper was called up to make a number of further excellent saves, but ultimately it was time to see the game out and wait until Wednesday to see who Kingstonian will host in the Second Round as Croydon face Merstham's CCL West Division team to decide the Ks' opponents.
