K's Academy beaten by Saints
Southampton (Sparsholt) continued their excellent form despite the best efforts of the K’s Academy.
Callum Appleby had an early chance for the visitors when he shot into the side netting. The next chance for Southampton came in the 22nd minute when Ricardo Cardoso parried a shot from Rowan Clancy and Harry Mostyn-Privett did well to clear the follow up shot off the line.
The K’s were competing well at this stage and Thomas Hourigan tested Southampton keeper, Ryan Christopher with a long range free kick in the 25th minute.
The K’s resistance was finally broken in the 28th minute when George Higgins scored from a penalty after Clancy had been felled in the box.
Southampton dominated the remainder of the half and Clancy and Appleby both had chances before the latter added goals in the 42nd and 44th minutes.
Half time: 0-3
Southampton increased their lead in the 60th minute when Ryan Penny weaved his way through a static K’s defence before beating Cardoso.
Thomas Hourigan reduced the arrears in the 68th minute with a lobbed shot that went in via the woodwork.
Cardoso made a good save to deny Callum Appleby his hat-trick in the 76th minute and Louis-Rae Bentley hit the outside of the post, but the Saints were unable to add any further goals in the latter stages of the game.
