K's Academy pick up first League point against Fulham
The K’s Academy were denied their first victory of the season by their opponents scoring an equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Tom Hourigan was unlucky in not giving the K’s an early lead when his well struck free kick hit the bar.
Fulham then took a 7th minute lead with their next attack. Levi Cowan pounced on a defensive error and beat Ricardo Cardoso with a firmly struck low finish.
The K’s regained parity in the 9th minute when Lucas Pina slotted home the equaliser.
With Jason Stripp and Jeffrey Minter pulling the strings in midfield, the K’s dominated possession but were unable to penetrate a determined Fulham defence for the remainder of the first half.
Half time: 1-1
The K’s started the second half well. Lucas Pina had an early chance when he cut inside from the wing, but his shot was fired high over the bar.
In the 55th minute, a cross from Tom Hourigan found Josh Johnson at the far post, who went close with a header.
The K’s good attacking play was rewarded when they took the lead in the 65th minute. Taylor Green made a good penetrating run along the right flank before delivering a fine cross that was expertly turned in at the near post by Josh Johnson.
Fulham fought back and Joel Oddoye went close with a 70th minute effort.
In the 81st minute, the K’s had a goal disallowed by the referee who adjudged Josh Johnson to have fouled the goalkeeper before touching home.
The K’s defence which had played well and had been largely untroubled for most of the match, was breached in the 3rd minute of stoppage time by Tobi Oriowo-Lawrence, who lifted the ball over Cardoso to equalise for his side.
Although it was a cruel blow for the K’s, they should nevertheless take heart from an encouraging performance.
