K's Academy lose late to Leafe
The Kingstonian Academy lost their first away match 6-3 after bringing the score back to 3-3 with fifteen minutes left.
The afternoon didn’t start well for the K’s when they could only muster a squad of 13 for the match. With two enforced substitutions made in the first half due to injury, the lack of being able to make any further substitutions in the second half was to prove costly later in the game.
The K’s got off to a poor start when they fell behind to a second minute goal. Keenan Williams tapped home after the ball rebounded to him off the post following a shot from Liam Francis.
Francis then forced a save from Ronaldo Cardoso shortly after, and he was also denied a goal thanks to a timely clearance from Telmo Santos.
The Whyteleafe keeper, Jimmy Penfold, saved a shot from Bruno Morais, and Tom Hourigan went close with a dipping shot that whistled narrowly over the bar.
The K’s equalised in the 29th minute. Josh Johnson exchanged passes with Telmo Santos, before curling a delightful shot past Penfold.
The K’s were only level for two minutes as Liam Francis rounded Cardoso to restore his side’s lead.
The K’s pressed hard for an equaliser, and they had chances with Johnson firing over the bar when well placed and Hourigan going close with a shot hit from distance.
Half time: 2-1
Whyteleafe increased their lead in the 57th minute when Francis threaded a ball through to Ryan Billson who slotted home.
The K’s responded well and they stunned their hosts to score two cracking goals to draw level.
The first of these came in the 73rd minute. Josh Johnson received a pass from Bruno Morais and he hit a blistering shot past a static Penfold.
The equaliser, which came in the 76th minute, was another fine goal. Jeffrey Minter started the move with a pass to Lucas Pina out on the wing. The winger then cut inside, exchanged passes with Gio Bent, before unleashing a powerful shot past Penfold. It was a just reward for Pina, who had been causing the Whyteleafe defence problems all afternoon.
However, the K’s began to tire, and unable to make any further substitutions, they were made to pay in the final ten minutes.
Whyteleafe took advantage and finished the match strongly. Yosief Mihretab restored the lead for his side in the 80th minute, and this was followed by further goals from Nahor Habtu in the 82nd and 83rd minutes.
