Goalless Draw at Worthing Leaves K's Tottering

A 0-0 draw at Worthing is usually a good result, but under the current circumstances...

Match report by Simon Grier

A goalless draw away at Worthing was not in itself a bad result, or performance, for Ks, particularly with talismanic striker Ryan Moss out of action. But thanks to fellow strugglers Burgess Hill Town recording an unlikely win away to Harrow Borough, it saw Ks fall back into the relegation zone.

Craig Edwards has undoubtedly installed a new sense of purpose into Ks but it might not be enough to save them from the drop.

The game was far from a classic – Worthing are themselves on an extended run of poor form with only one win and four goals in their last ten games – and much of the encounter was nervy.

Rob Tolfrey was slightly the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half though, making a reflex one-handed save to deny former Ks man Dan Summers after good work by David Herbert. Summers pulled an effort wide shortly afterwards while Ks failed to force Kieron Thorp into a save all half, although his full-back Sam Rents helped him out by clearing an Alan Inns header off the line.

Joe Turner volleyed wide after the interval but the game remained cagey until both sides had moments where they rode their luck towards the end. Worthing substitute Lloyd Dawes beat Tolfrey after a Louis Clark cross only to see his effort rebound off the inside of the post before Ks substitute Charles Banya lobbed Thorp only for the ball to rebound back off the bar.

Taken at another point in the season a draw at Worthing might have been looked on quite fondly by Ks fans – but right now they need a win, if not two, and time is running out to get them.
