We were a little depleted with two key players absent and a third reporting unwell just before kick-off. We reshuffled our pack, but understandably in the circumstances took a while to settle and Abbey Rangers pushed us back. Mid-way through the half however Vicky Cockle pressured an Abbey Rangers’ defender into conceding possession and she strode through to smash the ball home and put us ahead. A dipping shot from Carolina Boltz (pictured) then made it 2-0. However, we picked up another injury just before half-time and early in the second half we allowed Abbey Rangers in to pull a goal back. Shortly afterwards we breathed a sigh of relief when an Abbey Rangers goal was chalked off for off-side. From then on, we regrouped effectively with everyone working hard, and our efforts were rewarded with a late third goal from Rebecca Bradshaw to clinch the game.
Abbey Rangers were difficult opposition and we really knew we had been in a match today, but we have three points on the board and are off to a great start in our Surrey County League campaign.
