New London Lionesses too good for K's in cup tie
Kingstonian beaten by New London Lionesses 0-6 in the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy.
We welcomed New London Lionesses on Sunday, the league's frontrunners, in the 3rd round of the John Greenacre Memorial Trophy on a crisp, clear afternoon perfect for football. With a snap hailstorm just before the start a sign of things to come, we kicked off on a heavy Kew pitch.
New London Lionnesses started strongly and continued that way through much of the first half allowing us little time and space and very few attacking opportunities. It was 1-0 to the visitors within 5 minutes and 3-0 within 20. The first half ended with NLL 4-0 to the good and the game more or less over.
The second half started as the first ended with our opponents taking advantage to score 2 early goals. The best that we could now hope for was to take some pride in the second half performance and for the next 35 minutes we regrouped, adjusted our shape and competed strongly.
Playing some nice pass & move football in the final third we created opportunities but could not find the finish for a deserved consolation.
New London Lionesses are a dynamic, hardworking team and very much deserved their 6-0 victory today. It was a tough day for us but the girls kept positive, played some attractive football and continue to show the strength of character that epitomises this group of players.
