Late Towners winner spoils K's comeback
Kingstonian come back from 0-2 down to equalise at 2-2, only to concede a late winner against Enfield Town Reserves.
After another enforced break due to the winter weather and fixture schedule, we travelled to Enfield Town to take on their reserve team with whom we had shared 8 goals earlier in the season.
We were without Annie Jenkins, Hannah Jacobsen, Bethan John and Mairead Halliday today but welcomed back Nele Quast, Charlotte Willis-Sloane and Elesha Edman.
We got off to a disastrous start when with Enfield's very first attack a left wing cross was turned into our own net for an unfortunate own goal 1-0.
After that we were enjoying more of the possession but we weren't getting the rub of the green. None more so than when Vicky Cockle appeared to be chopped down inside the Enfield penalty area for what seemed to be the most clear cut of penalties, only for the referee to wave play on. HT 1-0
We reshuffled our formation after half time and the balance of play seemed to tip even further in our favour. However, with 60 minutes on the clock, the ball was spilled from another left wing Enfield cross and a striker had the simplest of tap-ins. 2-0
We looked down and out after that, but the ladies didn't give up and only a few minutes later Renae Huggan-Broughton converted an Abi Elliott corner to bring us back into the game 2-1. With 75 minutes on the clock, a bursting run from Renae then resulted in a pull back for Sophia Demetriou to tap home the equaliser. 2-2.
The game then ranged from end to end with both teams looking for the three points. With 85 minutes gone however Enfield won a corner which was floated in to find an inexplicably unmarked Enfield player inside our area, who took a touch and hammered the ball into our net. A great deal of running the clock down by Enfield then ensued before the referee blew the final whistle on a 3-2 defeat.
Yet another game that we didn't deserve to lose on the balance of play, but for which we could again point at unforced errors and a sloppy start as the causes of our downfall.
