Enfield Town match report

9 months ago By Kingstonian FC

Simon Grier reports on an evening that went rather well.

Kingstonian’s first league game under Leigh Dynan was a highly impressive 3-1 win over Hendon. That Ks had not won since, despite some two months passing, was highly alarming but after another reboot of the squad a 4-1 win over Enfield Town has given the fans hope again.

Breaking the run of eight league games without a win and getting three crucial points on the board was of course pleasing but even more pleasing was the manner of the win. Ks were the better team from the outset and were in no way flattered by the emphatic scoreline. In fact, they could have won by more against an opponent previously unbeaten in seven matches.

Dynan made three more new signings: Leo Chambers, Louie Theophanus and Tom Beere becoming Ks’ 59th, 60th and 61st players of the season and just three surviving from the Hendon game.

And the new signings were involved right from the start, Beere finding space on the left in just the fifth minute and crossing low for Theophanus to drill past goalkeeper Joe Wright.

Ks continued to look dangerous with Noel Mbo firing narrowly wide after an Andre McCollin flick-on and shortly afterwards forcing Wright to save. Marvin Elliott headed wide from a corner but although Enfield had the occasional threat – Taylor McKenzie and Sam Youngs came close with headers – Ks remained largely in control.

Four minutes before the interval, almost immediately after Youngs’ missed chance, the lead was doubled. Mbo raced onto a Theophanus through ball and slotted past Wright to make it 2-0. It might have been three before the break but for Wright saving from Theophanus with his legs after a sublime move where Beere dummied Mbo’s cross.

Ks didn’t let up after the break and on 53 minutes McCollin raced onto a ball over the top and beat Wright to make it three. Unlike against Thurrock it counted this time, the popular striker marking his first goal since his return to the club.

The only bad points for Ks came in quick succession. First Ryan Blackman scored a penalty after Andrew Musungu brought down Micky Parcell and then a minute later McCollin limped off with a knock. But Ks remained the better side with Theophanus having one effort cleared off the line and another saved by Wright before they restored the 4-1 margin when Parcell deflected a Dennis Oli cross-shot past his own goalkeeper.
Mbo for Ks and Blake for Enfield both hit the woodwork late on but soon Ks were celebrating getting back to winning ways.
